CGI opens eighth delivery center

CGI has opened another of its delivery centers in a community away from major metropolitan areas, this time around the University of Tennessee.

CGI has opened another of its delivery centers in a community away from major metropolitan areas.

The latest was announced Friday in Knoxville, Tennessee, and includes  a partnership with the state as well as the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.

CGI has begun hiring for the center and expects to employ 300 people by 2026.

“After a competitive and wide-ranging search, CGI selected Knoxville based on a number of factors – most notably access to talent and a strong culture of innovation within the Knoxville area and the state of Tennessee,” said David Henderson, CGI president for U.S. commercial and state government operations.

The Knoxville center is the eighth center CGI has opened in so-called "out of the way" places. The other centers are in Belton, Texas; Lafayette, Louisiana; Lebanon, Virginia; Mobile, Alabama; Troy Alabama; Waterville, Maine; and Wausau, Wisconsin.

Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee was on hand when CGI announced the Knoxville center as well as Bob Rolfe, commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development.

When CGI opens one of these centers, they seek to establish a close working relationship with state and local government and local colleges and universities.

The company said it began creating these centers to tap into under-utilized talent pools. Part of the focus in Knoxville will be advanced analytics, cybersecurity and digital transformation.
