Battelle tapped for $9.5M nuclear weapon modeling contract

Battelle Memorial Institute has been picked by the Air Force to support the monitoring of nuclear weapons under a five-year, $9.5 million contract.

Battelle will support the Air Force Technical Applications Center with the operation, maintenance, and research and development of modeling and simulation efforts.

According to Deltek, Battelle was the incumbent on this contract as was another not-for-profit research firm, MRI Global.

The contract is known as the Environmental Modeling and Simulation Support III contract.

Work will take place at Patrick Air Force Base in Florida and support daily operations of the Nuclear Treaty Monitoring Mission to monitor treaty compliance and detect nuclear weapons proliferation.

In addition to highly skilled support personnel, Battelle will provide technical assistance the following areas:

  • Chemical Computer Aided Design, known as ChemCAD
  • ChemCAD modeling tool system security
  • COTS and GOTS software
  • ISO 9000 compliance
  • U.S. Army Chemical Surety Laboratory Bailment Agreement
  • Advanced literature search capabilities and experience

Battelle personnel working on the contract also are required to have security clearances and Battelle must have a Secret Facility Clearance for its location where work may be done.
