Aurora Flight Sciences has won an $11.1 million contract to support the Navy’s Autonomous Aerial Cargo | Utility System program.
The AACUS program is an innovative Naval prototype pursuing significant advances in the state of the art in rotorcraft autonomy, the Defense Department said in a release.
The primary purpose of AACUS is to enable unmanned vertical take-off and landing rapid response cargo delivery to separated small units in conditions that pose risks to ground resupply personnel and aircrew.
Work will be performed in Manassas, Va., and is expected to be completed in February 2017.
