Raytheon to support NORAD under $700M sustainment contract

Raytheon has won a $700 million contract with the Air Force to support the North American Aerospace Defense Command’s Cheyenne Mountain Complex.

The Command, better known as NORAD, has its headquarters located at the Cheyenne Mountain Complex, which is a nuclear bunker located at the Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station in Colorado Springs, Colo.

NORAD’s mission is to protect U.S. and Canadian airspace from attacks via missiles, aircraft or space.

Under the contract, Raytheon will provide sustainment services and products supporting the Integrated Tactical Warning/Attack Assessment and Space Support Contract covered systems, the Defense Department said in a release.

The systems provide authorities with accurate and timely warning and attack assessment of air, missile and space threats, the Defense Department said.

Work will be performed at Peterson Air Force Base, Colo., Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station, Colo., Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif., and Offutt Air Force Base, Neb., and is slated to wrap up in March 2020.

Two companies bid on this contract, the Defense Department said.
