CSC public sector gets new leader

Computer Sciences Corp. continues its turnaround effort by shuffling its executive ranks, including elevating the head of its public sector group to a new position.

Dave Zolet is now the leader of the commercial business for CSC’s Americas region.

Larry Prior, formerly head of the public sector’s defense and intelligence group, is now the leader of all of public sector.

Ken Deutsch, former leader of the public sector’s naval and joint operations division, has taken over for Prior as leader of the defense and intelligence group.

The Washington Business Journal reported that the change in CSC’s leadership structure included the elimination of a central global organization. The regional leaders such as Zolet will now report directly to CEO Mike Lawrie. Prior also will report to Lawrie.

The change means that John Maguire, who was executive vice president and general manager of CSC global sales and regional operations, has left the company, the Washington Business Journal reported.

The company press release did not say much about the rationale. Could it be a repositioning of deck-chair-holders on a previously strong business that had lacked an effective strategy? What is it that about this firm that would look different to a Federal customer in, say, the DHS and DoD space? Are the staff who worked on the contracts used in "prior experience" still on board? Is there a secret sauce in the company's software. Is the company less expensive? More secure?
