Vangent hires former Medicare administrator as senior VP

Kerry Weems will lead health care-related strategy development

Vangent Inc. has hired Kerry Weems, the former administrator of the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services, as a senior vice president of health strategy.

In his new role, Weems will lead Vangent’s strategy development efforts in what the company sees as rapidly growing health and health inforemation technology markets.

Weems retired from the federal government in January after a 28-year career. In addition to being administrator of CMS, he also was vice chairman of the American Health Information Community. He led efforts involving e-prescriptioning, electronic health records and personal health records.

Before becoming administrator he also held positions of deputy chief of staff, chief financial officer and chief budget officer at the Health and Human Services Department.

“Kerry’s experience and vast knowledge will be invaluable as Vangent continues to grow in the health and health IT markets. Bold, strategic leadership will be key to growth and success in the rapidly evolving health field,” said Mac Curtis, Vangent’s president and chief executive officer.

Vangent is ranked No. 52 on Washington Technology’s 2009 Top 100 list of the largest government contractors.
