Audit: New York Medicaid processing needs improvement

Inadequate management of New York state’s Medicaid claims-processing system has resulted in millions of dollars of improper payments, reports Government Health IT. The findings are the result of a state audit.

The Office of the State Comptroller discovered that the Department of Health lacks an appropriate system for the oversight and information technology governance of its claims-processing system, eMedNY.

Auditors “found the process for managing the system is not clearly understood among staff and is undocumented,” according to a statement released Dec. 10 by the comptroller’s office.
