Lockheed Martin closes Aculight buy

Lockheed Martin has completed its acquisition of Aculight, a provider of laser-based solutions for defense and aerospace customers.

Lockheed Martin Corp. has completed its acquisition of Aculight Corp., a provider of laser-based solutions for defense and aerospace customers. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Based in Bothell, Wash., Aculight has expertise in countermeasures, laser radar, high-power directed-energy systems and medical products. Those capabilities are expected to benefit Lockheed Martin's customers in areas such as guided munitions, airborne self-protection, advanced sensors and warfighter security, company officials said.

The acquisition was first announced July 28. Aculight will become part of Lockheed Martin's business unit in Akron, Ohio.

Lockheed Martin, of Bethesda, Md., ranks No. 1 on Washington Technology's 2008 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
