L-3 names Wald international VP

L-3 Communications has appointed retired Air Force Gen. Charles Wald to serve as corporate vice president of its international business endeavors.

For his new mission in the corporate world, Wald will be responsible for assisting L-3's operating groups in growing their international business base.

Wald most recently served as deputy commander of the Headquarters U.S. European Command, a position he held from 2002 until his retirement last year.

Wald's understanding of operational requirements coupled with his knowledge of the Defense Department "will be a key resource for L-3," Michael Strianese, L-3's president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.

L-3 also announced that Gino Malatesta has been named to the newly created position of corporate vice president for planning. As such, he will manage the company's internal financial planning, forecasting processes and analysis.

An executive with 23 years' experience in aerospace and defense industry financial management and planning, Malatesta was most recently L-3's senior group vice president for finance.

L-3 Communications ranks No. 9 on Washington Technology's 2007 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
