CGI Federal continues triage of CMS Web sites

Contract covers three external sites that provide public information

CGI Federal Inc. will continue to upgrade Web sites for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services under a five-year contract worth $73.2 million.

Under terms of the competitive award, the U.S. operating subsidiary of CGI Group Inc. will continue its modernization, application management and maintenance efforts on three external CMS Web sites that provide information to 44 million beneficiaries and millions more health care providers and other stakeholders, according to a CGI announcement today.

The three sites – Medicare.gov, cms.hhs.gov, and MyMedicare.gov – are a critical component of the agency’s mission to provide quality care, accounting for more than 500 million page views each year and serving as CMS’ online communication channels for beneficiaries and providers, the announcement said.

The award-winning online presence assists beneficiaries make informed decisions about their health care coverage and conduct online transactions with CMS. The sites also support the customer support specialists who run the 1-800-Medicare help lines.

CGI has been working with the CMS Web sites to better meet the agency’s mission of education, outreach and service, as well as open government requirements for increased transparency, participation, and collaboration, CGI said.

For example, the Hospital Compare and Nursing Home Compare tools combine geographical data from Google Maps with health care provider quality-of-care information to help users locate and assess health care facilities near them, the statement added.

CGI Group, of Montreal, Quebec, ranks No. 78 on Washington Technology’s 2009 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
