The Army is looking to transition its IT assets out from a network of data centers into an enterprise multi-cloud environment.

Accenture‘s U.S. federal subsidiary has booked a potential three-year, $127 million task order to help the Army modernize and migrate large-scale applications into a cloud computing environment.

Accenture Federal Services will work to create an approach for the Army to transition applications, systems and information from its current network of data centers into an enterprise multi-cloud environment.

The Enterprise Application Modernization and Migration order has a one-year base period with two option years, AFS said Monday. The Army awarded the order in January through the Alliant 2 IT solutions vehicle and received 11 bids, according to Federal Procurement Data System records.

Procurement documents outline how a bulk of those applications will move into the service branch's cArmy enterprise cloud environment, which offers users authorized and operational common shared services in the Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure infrastructures.

Justin Shirk, managing director for federal cloud and secure missions at Accenture Federal Services, said in a release that the company will heavily lean on its Cloud Migration and Modernization Factory for the contract.

AFS established the factory as a means to help agencies carry out modernization jobs in-line with strict security standards including those set by the Defense Department and intelligence agencies. The factory service delivers fully-accreditable security baselines and application archetypes at any classification level.

“Our goal is to rapidly deliver on a modernization vision that will empower the Army to improve its agility, as well as its application and data availability, in critical mission systems that drive force resiliency,” Shirk said.

“The U.S. Army’s cloud modernization journey is foundational to the Army’s overall modernization strategy and reflects its digital-first mindset,” added Dana Oliver, managing director and Army client account leader at AFS.
