Harris promotes its CIO to president of IT Services

Harris Corp. has named Ted Hengst president of Harris IT Services, succeeding John Heller, who has decided to join another company in the government services industry, the company said in its April 11 announcement.
Hengst also will continue in his role as corporate vice president and CIO, posts he’s held since 2010. The move is a return to the IT services group, which he led from 2006 to 2010.
In his new role, he will lead all aspects of IT to shape growth strategies and advance innovation in the global delivery of secure, mission-enabling IT solutions to our customers, and internally across Harris, the announcement said.
Prior to joining Harris in December 2006, Hengst was senior vice president of the $1 billion Army solutions unit at General Dynamics Corp.
He retired from the Army with the rank of colonel, last serving as CIO/J6 at U.S. Special Operations Command at MacDill Air Force Base.
Hengst has a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and a master’s degree in management information systems from the Naval Post Graduate School.
Harris Corp., of Melbourne, Fla., ranks No. 13 on Washington Technology’s 2011 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
