What's behind WT's new look

Our website's new design is likely noticeable by now. We've gone through some significant changes but our mission remains the same -- provide you the best coverage of the business of federal government contracting.

If you are reading this, I’m sure you all have noticed we now have a new website design. This is all part of our integration into our new parent company GovExec.

The migration from the old site to the new site occurred late Wednesday afternoon and into the evening. We are still working out some kinks to be frank.

Our flagship Top 100 rankings are only available as a static list, but we are working hard to return functionality to the page. The other rankings -- the M&A Roundup and Fast 50 -- are still in the process of being migrated. But the plan is that everything will be in place by Jan. 1 if not sooner.

Those rankings pages aren’t like a regular story because they have features such as being able to sort by name, revenue, and type of business for example. You can also drill down for more information on each company in the rankings.

But that functionality will be back soon.

Big change number two that should be obvious is the increased use of images: both photography and concept art. This is new territory for us but also a good opportunity to stretch our skills. To be frank, I’ve resisted this change in the past, but just a couple days in and I think it is going to be OK.

The new website follows the framework of the other GovExec sites and addresses something that has long bothered me about the design of our website. There has been no good place for stories and features of importance to remain in a prominent place on the website. The redesign we went through at the beginning of the summer was a step in the right direction and this move takes it a couple steps further.

Our newsletter has also been redesigned to a simpler, more straightforward format.

You’ll see other changes to the website as we settle in. For example, my blog doesn’t have a home yet but will in the future. The blog just runs as a regular article right now.

There are a lot of back-office functions that are still moving, but I hope there is nothing that is frustrating you.

If there is, please let me know. You can email me directly at nwakemanATwashingtontechnology.com

Our look is new and fresh, but our mission remains unchanged -- providing the most important and insightful coverage of the business of government contracting. We look forward to continuing to serve you.
