VA previews new enterprise training system

The department wants better tracking of its training and education needs for the workforce.

The Veteran Affairs Department wants to improve training and education programs for employees by hiring a contractor to build an enterprise learning management system.

Such a system would track talent development, including who has taken part in training and what employees across the entire department need

A new sources sought notice describes the requirements, such as all VA employees having access to training and education through that learning management system.

Both VA employees who work directly with veterans and IT specialists would receive the training. The learning management system will cover all aspects of VA’s training portfolio.

The VA sees improved training and education of employees as critical to improving performance across the board and to providing better services to veterans.

Some of the future system's specific tasks include project management and planning, system design and implementation, software development and system hosting.

The VA’s Human Capital Service Center will manage the contract, which is expected to have a one-year base and four-one-year options.

Comments to the request for information are due June 3.

No procurement strategy is set yet, so this could still be a small business set-aside contract if enough qualified small businesses and/or veteran-owned businesses respond.

That would show the VA that there enough of a small business/vet-owned business based to run a competition.

In other words, small businesses who think they can do the work have to respond.
