WT Innovator: Acquisitions fuel Accenture's drive for innovation

Since 2013, Accenture Federal has closed six acquisitions and all have added niche skills and technologies that are in demand in the government market.

The company was recognized this week as the winner in the Best Use of Acquisitions category in Washington Technology's Industry Innovators awards program.

ASM Research kicked it off in 2013, building on Accenture’s health IT skills but also bringing a critical position on the VA’s T4 contract vehicle.

Agilex followed in 2015 with critical skills in Agile software development, mobility, cloud services and advanced analytics.

Defense Point Security in 2016 and Endgame Federal Services in 2017 brought cybersecurity capabilities in a variety of areas.

Phase One earlier this year brought Salesforce and digital platform skills. It is the only Salesforce Platinum Consulting Partner exclusively focused on the federal market.

LabAnswer, also this year, bought laboratory and health care informatics.

The deals have helped Accenture grow its cyber, digital and cloud business, which are the foundation of the company’s growth. The acquisitions have played a critical role in Accenture’s effort to focus on new technologies, delivery methods, management strategies and operating models.

For one major account, the company divided its team into nine groups or ventures as Accenture calls them. Each venture has a unique organizational or technology focus.

They also act more like startups so they can bring innovative solutions to customers more quickly.
