New GSA deputy CIO is on the job

Sonny Hashmi starts work today as the new deputy CIO at the General Services Administration, reporting to CIO Casey Coleman.

Coleman tweeted the announcement Jan. 17: “Looking forward to welcoming new member of the GSA exec team tomorrow, deputy CIO, Sonny Hashmi!” she wrote.

Hashmi was deputy CIO at the Office of the Chief Financial Officer for the District of Columbia. He has also served as a program manager at L-1 Identity Solutions, account executive at Affiliated Computer Services and adjunct instructor at Stratford University, according to his LinkedIn profile.

He attended the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business and Purdue University.

GSA began advertising for a new deputy CIO in June. The deputy CIO assists the CIO and other senior leaders and serves as the agency’s chief technology officer, according to the job notice posted on USAJobs.gov.
