AT&T names new FirstNet lead
AT&T shuffles its executive ranks and as part of that appoints a new leader to steer the FirstNet public safety network's roll out.
AT&T has made a pair of moves in its executive ranks, including the appointment of a new leader to oversee the roll out of the FirstNet nationwide public safety network.
The telecom giant has named its Chief Data Officer Jason Porter as senior vice president of the FirstNet program, according to an emailed company statement to WT.
“I’m honored to lead our FirstNet program and carry on the important responsibility of delivering public safety’s vision for a dedicated, nationwide communications platform that’s second to none,” Porter said in the statement. “Serving our first responders through FirstNet isn’t just a dream job for me, it’s a calling, and I’m excited to take on this special mission.”
Porter also led strategic planning functions for AT&T’s technology operations division and joined the company in 2002.
Porter succeeds Chris Sambar, who was promoted to executive vice president of technology operations. Sambar will oversee AT&T’s next-generation and wireless network planning, investment, engineering, construction and operations for consumer and enterprise customers in business and government.
