Accenture federal arm's board adds former NOAA chief

Accenture’s federal market subsidiary has added former National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration chief Kathryn Sullivan to its board of managers.

Sullivan will help steer Accenture Federal Services’ strategy and vision as it pursues growth, the company said in a release Thursday.

The board of managers at AFS essentially has the same function as a board of directors. In this case, AFS’ board has a different name given the business is a subsidiary of the global consulting giant that has a board of directors.

Sullivan was confirmed by the Senate in 2014 for the NOAA administrator role after one year as the agency’s acting head. She is also a 15-year NASA veteran and former astronaut who holds the distinction of being the first American woman to walk in space.

Sullivan flew on three Space Shuttle missions, including the 1990 deployment of the Hubble Space Telescope.
