GDIT gets ONENet extension

General Dynamics IT, through the CSRA acquisition, gets a $159.6 million extension for the Navy ONENet contract as the service prepares for NGEN-R.
One other piece of the Navy’s main IT services contract family required an extension to continue that work as the branch gets ready to award the new iteration next year.
Through the CSRA acquisition, General Dynamics’ IT services segment has received a potential one-year, $159.6 million contract modification to extend its services for ONE-Net -- the core IT environment for Navy commands and other organizations outside the continental U.S.
This extension was required as the Navy transitions ONE-Net into the almost $3.4 billion Next Generation Enterprise Network-Recompete family of contracts due for award next year, the Defense Department said in its Wednesday awards digest.
NGEN-R is split into a smaller end-user hardware contract and a much larger award for systems integration and other services work. GDIT is one of three prime bidders competing for the NGEN-R services track against longstanding incumbent Perspecta and Leidos.
With CSRA in tow, GDIT is touting its experience with ONE-Net, which is described essentially as in-theater IT.
The NGEN-R services contract is one of the government IT market’s most anticipated awards next year given its size and scope, plus the military’s overall thrust and funding boosts to help upgrade aging technology environments.
Whomever wins the services portion gains a major foothold in defense IT modernization.
