MAG makes first deal with PE firm's backing

Defense IT contractor MAG Aerospace makes its first acquisition with the backing of a private equity firm to further build the ISR services portfolio.

Fresh off getting backing from a private equity firm, defense IT contractor MAG Aerospace has made an acquisition to further build its portfolio of services in intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.

Terms of MAG’s deal for North American Surveillance Systems were undisclosed, but MAG said Tuesday the transaction adds 75 professionals to its workforce.

The deal comes less than a week after MAG announced it received an investment from New Mountain Capital, the same group that formerly held government contractors Apptis and Camber Corp.

Founded in 2007, the veteran-owned NASS outfit specializes in what it calls the integration of “ISR quick reaction capability” into aircraft along with systems engineering, manufacturing, testing, certification, training and logistics support.

Titusville, Florida-based NASS builds and installs electronic communication, navigation and surveillance systems on rotary and fixed-wing aircraft.
