Leidos wins $13M Air Force laser research program

Leidos wins a $13.9 million contract to research semiconductor laser technology for the Air Force.

Leidos has won a potential five-year, $13.9 million contract to conduct research in support of the Air Force’s efforts to advance semiconductor laser technology.

The Air Force Research received one other offer for the “Compact Semiconductor Mid- and long-wave Opto-electronics” research initiative, the Defense Department said in its Monday contracts digest.

Solicitation documents on the COSMO program detail its goals to develop laser devices that can generate high brightness from broad-area devices.

Key capabilities include higher output power and transition of modules for test, evaluation, prototyping and incorporation into infrared countermeasure systems.

Work will take place through April 2023.
