Former AIA chief Melcher nominated to Cubic board

Former Aerospace Industries Association CEO David Melcher receives nomination for a spot on Cubic Corp.'s board of directors.

David Melcher, former CEO of the defense trade group Aerospace Industries Association, has been nominated to the board of directors at Cubic Corp.

He will stand for election at the San Diego-based defense and transportation contractor’s next annual shareholder meeting Feb. 19, Cubic said Friday.

Melcher led AIA for two-and-a-half years up until his retirement at the end of last year, when he was succeeded as chief executive by former Army Secretary Eric Fanning.

A retired Army lieutenant general, Melcher also led the former Exelis as chief executive for nearly four years until the defense contractor’s acquisition by former rival Harris Corp. Exelis spun out of former parent ITT Corp. in 2011.

Cubic also said its current board chairman Walter C. Zable will leave the board at the conclusion of its annual shareholder meeting. He is leaving after a 54-year career with the company founded by his late father Walter J. Zable in 1951 and served on the board for 42 of those years.
