AT&T wins Army contract for 1 million users

AT&T has won a $35.8 million contract to provide a wide range of communications and collaboration services for 1 million Army users.

AT&T Corp. has won a $35.8 million contract to provide 1 million Army users with a wide range of communications and collaboration services under a subscription fee model.

The Army says the fixed price contract lets it add new services without making a large capital investment and also helps lower costs as the technologies are commercial-off-the-shelf.

Services under the "UC Soft Client Subscription Service" contract will have 1 million users of voice, video, chat, presence and screen sharing services. Users will also be able to connect with existing tactical solutions, the Army said.

Users will access the services through a software client on any Army approved end-user device including desktops, laptops, tablet computers, and smartphones.

The contract is for five-years and runs through September 2022 with one base year and four one-year options.

The Army saved money on the initial investment as well as lower avoiding costs and lowering maintenance investments, a spokesman said.
