Unisys Federal creates internal processes as tools for innovation

Unisys Federal has created several internal processes to improve its operations. These have focused on management approvals, operations, employee training and development, and recruiting and clearances. Actions in each of these areas have either resulted in operational efficiencies or cost savings.

For example, management approvals have been streamlined and automated. Items such as purchasing or hiring, labor compliances and risk assessment are now paperless and approvals take two days rather than seven.

The company was recognized recently as the winner in the Best Use of Corporate Restructuring category in Washington Technology's Industry Innovators awards program.

In operations, a centralized concierge team provides shared services for project staffing, resource management, financial forecasting and client satisfaction surveys. One result is that revenue and profit forecasting went from 85 percent accuracy to 95 percent, costs for these functions when down 40 percent and internal customer satisfaction went up 30 percent.

Employees now have a dashboard to tract learning and advancement plans, with over 4,000 courses to chose from. The time it takes to fill new positions has improved by 25 percent with a 2 percent topline growth attributable to recruiting efficiencies.

Unisys Federal is structured around three client-facing segments: civilian agencies, homeland security and critical infrastructure, and defense and intelligence. The structure allows specific sector expertise to deliver to the customer. A centralized integrated solutions team is aligned with Unisys’ global service lines and leverages commercial best practices to meet federal client needs.
