Northrop gets $243M Air Force radar order

Northrop Grumman books a new two-year, $243.9 million contract to produce more active electronically scanned array radars for the Air Force.

Northrop Grumman has received a two-year, $243.9 million contract to build 72 active electronically scanned array radars for the Air Force.

These types of radars are flown on the F-16 and F-22 fighter jets and also designed for use on the ground and in unmanned aerial vehicles. Northrop and Raytheon are the two predominant manufacturers of AESA radars in the U.S.

The Air Force is obligating $30.7 million in contract funds from its fiscal year 2016 research, development, test and evaluation budget at the time of award.

Work will take place in Linthicum Heights, Md., home to the headquarters of Northrop’s electronic systems sector.
