Acting federal CIO strongly signals shared services acceleration

The acting federal chief information officer gave a strong hint Monday that the government plans to greatly accelerate its adoption of shared services, our sister publication FCW reported Monday.

"We're going to adopt shared services on a scale that we've never done before. Therefore, we have to send a demand signal to the market," Margie Graves told the ACT-IAC Management of Change conference.

Graves said agencies will have to set standards and bring data together in order to facilitate a shift to cloud-based shared services. Agencies also will likely include shared services in reorganization plans, she said.

Working capital funds included in the MGT Act for IT modernization efforts at agencies are a component of the migration to shared services, according to Graves.
