Harris scores $700M state-wide communications contract with Florida

Harris Corp. has won a $700 million contract with Florida to provide a state-wide communications network connecting public safety, law enforcement, public schools and other state and local government agencies.

Under the contract, which has a seven-year base and seven option years, Harris will use its MyFloridaNet-2 solution to link more than 4,000 sites and provide 4,700 connections via a state-wide communications infrastructure, the company said in a release.

The company will do this using its Harris Trusted Enterprise Network, which is a private network managed and operated by Harris from its network operations center in Melbourne, Fla.

The network supports voice, data and video connectivity as well as other telecommunications services including internet access, email and web hosting, Harris said.

To complete the work under the potentially 14-year contract, Harris is teaming with FPL FiberNet, CenturyLink, Level 3 Communications, Southern Light and Verizon.

One of Harris’ teammates, CenturyLink, just announced today that it will acquire Level 3 Communications, another Harris teammate, for $34 billion.
