Nutanix sews deeper data fabric with two acquisitions

Nutanix is adding to its enterprise cloud platform with two new acquisitions that add more data analytics and DevOps capabilities.

The driver beyond the deals is the company’s philosophy that the future of computing lies in bringing storage and applications closer together, said Nutanix founder, chairman and CEO Dheeraj Pandey.
Usually, Nutanix relies on organic growth to add new capabilities, but this time, the company is acquiring new capabilities through deals for PernixData and for Calm.io.
PernixData brings data acceleration and analytics capabilities. The company has been active in the federal market and counts among its customers agencies such as Energy, Navy, GSA, Agriculture and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency.
By adding PernixData, Nutanix will be improving its datacenter fabrics that bring data and applications closer together, Pandey said.
The combined companies will develop an advanced data stack to replace traditional storage silos and high latency networks with newer storage-class memory and advanced interconnects, he said.
Nutanix is investing in new server and storage technologies for the post-flash era of enterprise computing, Pandey said.
Calm.io’s focus has been on DevOps and bringing the right cloud infrastructure to each application.
“We have shared a similar vision as Nutanix since day one – datacenter infrastructure must be fully automated, simple to deploy and easy-to-use,” said Aaditya Sood, Calm.ie CEO.
While Calm.io doesn’t list any federal agencies among its customers, it is working with vendors who are active in the government market such as Amazon Web Services, Azure and Nutanix.
A Nutanix spokesman said that products from Calm.io and PernixData would be leveraged across all Nutanix markets.
