Lockheed awarded $126.3M contract extension for high-tech periscopes

Lockheed Martin Corp. will help the Navy develop and install new high-tech periscopes under a $126.3 million contract extension.

Lockheed Martin Corp. has been awarded a $126.3 million contract modification by the Navy for engineering services and support of an integrated submarine imaging system.

The systems are being used to replace traditional optical pericsopes with more advanced and sophisticated systems. The new systems include visual and electronic search capabilities and digital imaging that can be connected into other systems and even other vessels.

Services that Lockheed has been providing include design, development, testing, field engineering, technology insertion and other system support.

The new imaging systems are designed with an architecture that allows insertion of future capabilities as they become available, according the Defense Department.

The work under this modification will cover five submarines across the Los Angeles, Seawolf, Ohio and Virginia classes.
