Security biggest worry when managing remote IT

A recent survey conducted by i360 Gov and released by Riverbed Technology reveals that security is the biggest problem and highest expense federal IT officials face when it comes to managing remote and branch office information technology.

According to the survey, 89 percent of respondents reported being concerned about their ability to secure sensitive information within remote and branch office locations. Thirty-one percent of respondents reported experiencing a security breach at a branch office over the last year.

In addition to the reported breaches, respondents noted also having outages or other issues over the past year (44 percent).

It’s not that IT decision makers aren’t concerned—67 percent of respondents said they were—but that remote and branch office IT security is so expensive, with 91 percent of respondents saying that those costs will either stay steady or increase in the next year.
