Abt Associates tap to evaluate innovative CMS programs

Testing part of health care reform requirements

Abt Associates has won a $5.6 million contract with the CMS Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovations for program evaluation support.

Under the contract, Abt will evaluate a program designed to lower costs for Medicare, Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program, and improve patient care.

The company will evaluate 10 models based in hospital settings to determine whether the programs improved health care delivery and lowered costs for patients with specific clinical needs, Abt said in a release.

Andrea Hassol is serving as project director.

CMS is testing innovative health care payment and service delivery models as part of the Affordable Care Act, and is doing this through the Health Care Innovation Awards program.
