Lockheed unit wins $14.6M Navy order for high-tech camera system
Lockheed Martin has won a $14.6 million order from the Navy to provide field support for a vehicle-mounted high-tech camera system that includes thermal imaging and nigh-vision capabilities.
Lockheed Martin Gyrocam Systems has won a $14.6 million delivery order with the U.S. Navy to provide field service representatives to support a high-tech camera and imaging system for Marine ground forces.
Specifically, Lockheed's field service representatives will support a vehicle optic surveillance system for the Marine Air Ground Task Force.
Under the contract, the workers will provide parts, stock support, maintenance and training support for legacy systems, the Defense Department said.
Lockheed acquired Gyrocam Systems LLC in 2009. The company makes a gyroscope-stabilized imaging system that includes cameras, thermal-imaging and night-vision capabilities. The company claims its sensors allow warfighters and commanders to see in "darkness, smoke, fog, and haze – just as clear as daytime."
Work will be performed in Orlando, Fla., and in Afghanistan, and is expected to be completed by July 2014.
Funding in the full amount of the contract is obligated at the time of the award.
