The Social Security Administration is planning a 10-year, $210 million contract to buy EMC products and services to support its mainframe computers.
The Social Security Administration is planning a 10-year, $210 million contract to buy EMC products and services for the agency’s mainframe computers.
The contract will either go directly to EMC or to an authorized reseller, according to a notice that SSA posted on the FedBidOpps.gov website.
The agency wants to buy mainframe enterprise disk-storage infrastructure, software and services. The purchases will support “our normal growth in existing data processing workloads, new and expanding growth” because of the transition to the National Support Center, and other future initiatives.
The National Support Center is a new 300,000 square foot facility that houses a data center, offices and warehouse space for SSA.
Some of the requirements include mainframe disk storage hardware, storage management software and warranty support.
Features SSA wants include subsystem control, remote replication, local replication, thin provisioning, block level automated tiering and storage reporting.
The solicitation number is SSA-RFP-13-0017. Proposals are due July 5.
