GD names new leader for Advanced Information Systems group

Kirchmaier will report to David Heebner

General Dynamics has named Thomas Kirchmaier vice president and president of the company’s Advanced Information Systems business, succeeding Lewis Von Thaer, who resigned in April.

Kirchmaier will report to David Heebner, executive vice president of the company’s Information Systems and Technology group.

The Advanced Information Systems business provides mission systems development, integration and operations support to customers in the defense, intelligence and homeland security communities, the company said in a release.

Kirchmaier was most recently senior vice president and general manager of General Dynamics Information Technology’s Intelligence Solutions division, where he has been since 2007.

Before that, he was vice president of GDIT’s Global Information Services.

Kirchmaier came to the company back in 1999 through the acquisition of GTE Government Systems.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in electronic engineering from Cornell University, and a master’s degree in business management from Pepperdine University.

He is also a graduate of the Defense Acquisition University’s Federal Acquisition Management and Program Management School.
