DRS, MC Dean win Navy security systems contracts

DRS Technical Service Inc. and M.C. Dean Inc. have each been awarded an initial Navy contract worth $16.6 million for upgrading security systems at facilities outside the U.S.

These five-year contracts include options which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of the individual contracts to an estimated $94.7 million, according to a March 21 Defense Department notice.

The indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity, firm-fixed-price contracts call for the contractors to support the electronic security systems, information assurance and engineering network system programs at government facilities in the European, Middle Eastern, African, Southwest Asian and Central Asian regions.

Contract funds in the amount of $100,000 will be obligated at the time of award and each contractor will receive a $50,000 minimum guarantee, the DOD announcement said.

The work will be performed entirely outside the continental U.S. and is expected to be completed by March 2013. But the work could continue until March 2017 if all options are exercised.

These multiple award contracts were competitively procured with proposals solicited via the Commerce Business Daily’s Federal Business Opportunities website and the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center e-Commerce Central website, with six offers received.

Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Atlantic, Charleston, S.C., is the contracting activity.
