GSA issues RFP for content management software

The General Services Administration this month released a request for proposals for content management software for its FirstGov portal, Federal Asset Sales site and several other Web sites it runs. GSA also will offer the content management service to other agencies.
In the RFP, GSA said that using content management software would offer "significant opportunities for content cross-referencing and content repurposing across multiple Web sites." Without the software, the agency said, system and process barriers make cross-site content sharing difficult.
GSA expects FirstGov to gain the most in the short term from using the software. The RFP details 15 areas in which content management software could help, including:
*Establishing a more sophisticated navigational structure with cross-referencing;
*Reducing the number of broken links;
*Personalizing content based on user profiles;
*Syndicating content to public and private Web sites.
GSA said it hopes to realize these benefits in the next 18 months.
Federal Asset Sales, one of five major e-government projects GSA is managing, and the Federal Consumer Information Center site also will use the content management software.
Statements of qualifications were due Oct. 28, and proposals are due Nov. 26. GSA said it expects to award the contract Jan. 17.
