News briefs: On the edge Remote clients
Researchers at University of
Southern California's Information Sciences Institute have developed a solution, called
Tethernet, that provides true Internet service behind network address translation-based
subnets and other Internet-challenged environments. A client
machine at a remote location can hook into the original network using a real Internet
protocol address through a routerlike device connected to an outside service provider.
More information on Tethernet can be found at www.isi.edu/ xbone/tethernet/.
