Both iXP of Princeton, N.J., and Schema of Los Angeles serve clients whose emergency communications are critical to their missions.

Richard Dale, iXP's chief executive officer, said the cultures of the two companies are almost identical, and that the acquisition would allow iXP to offer clients a stronger, more complete public safety solution.

The deal will combine Schema's skills and solutions in emergency communications computerization, engineering services and facilities with iXP's skills and solutions in network availability and security, said Glenn Marin, Schema's president.
