Affiliated Computer Services Inc. has won a 30-month, $6 million subcontract to assist Logicon Inc. in the operation of an electronic benefit transfer system for the Illinois Department of Human Services, Dallas-based ACS said June 18.
The EBT system will provide Temporary Assistance to Needy Families and food stamp benefits to more than 400,000 Illinois residents.
EBT is the electronic authorization and distribution of government benefits and services. Illinois residents who qualify for the benefits will receive them through terminals at grocery and convenience stories that function like credit card and debit machines.
ACS and Logicon of Herndon, Va., provide similar services to the state of Texas through separate contracts. In Texas, ACS provides retailer management as well as settlement and reconciliation services, while Logicon provides transaction processing services.
ACS has provided credit card processing and related financial services to various clients for 13 years, said Harvey Braswell, president of ACS' Government Services Unit.
ACS has about 18,500 employees and had sales of $1.9 billion in fiscal 2000, according to Hoover's Online of Austin, Texas.
