Comments Sought on Blacklisting

The comment period on a rule that would revoke a controversial government contracting rule was recently extended from June 4 to July 6, and a public meeting about it was set for June 18.

The so-called blacklisting regulation requires that federal agencies, before awarding government contracts, consider whether companies bidding for those contracts are complying with labor, tax, employment, antitrust, environmental and consumer protection laws.

The rule went into effect one day before President Clinton left office but has been suspended under the Bush administration. The new rule would take it off the books.

The public meeting will be held at NASA's Washington headquarters from noon to 4 p.m. June 18.
