Logicon Wins Weather Pact

Logicon Inc., a subsidiary of Northrop Grumman Corp., has received a $13 million, five-year contract to provide computer operations and software programming services to the Air Force Weather Agency at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska.

The agency is the principal Defense Department facility to receive weather data from Defense Meteorological Satellite Program satellites. It then shares the information with the Navy and other organizations.

The weather agency provides aviation, terminal and target forecasts; severe weather prediction; automated weather flight planning; exercise and special mission support; and collection and dissemination of worldwide weather observations.

The information supports warfighters, base weather stations, national programs, command and control agencies and systems, and other operational and planning functions.

Logicon, based in Herndon, Va., expects the new contract to result in the hiring of 44 people, including managers, quality assurance and data center operations. Logicon's team includes Unisys Corp., Blue Bell, Pa.; McCallie Associates Inc., Bellevue, Neb.; and SGT Inc., Greenbelt, Md.
