General Dynamics Names International Development Head

General Dynamics Corp. of Falls Church, Va., announced today that William Schmieder was named vice president of the company and head of its international development activities.

Schmieder, 53, has been responsible for Washington activities in support of international development since February 2000.

"Overseas customers represent increasingly important opportunities for all units of the company, and Bill's leadership will help us maximize that potential going forward," said Nicholas Chabraja, chairman and chief executive officer.

Schmieder joined General Dynamics in 1990, and has moved steadily through the ranks in a variety of international programs positions. In 1997 he moved to a business development executive position with Bethesda, Md.-based Lockheed Martin Corp. He returned to General Dynamics in February 2000. Previously, Schmieder was a career Air Force officer.
