RS Information Systems Inc. of McLean, Va., announced Feb. 9 it was awarded a five-year, $31 million contract to operate the Department of Labor's Job Corps data center.

The data center in San Marcos, Texas, is the sole provider of technical and data services to the Job Corps residential education and job training program.

The program, a public-private partnership run by the Labor Department, serves 70,000 at-risk students ages 16 to 24 at 118 Job Corps centers and seven satellite locations nationwide.

RSIS, a minority-owned information technology and engineering firm, will be responsible for operating the center, which serves more than 11,000 network customers, nine regional offices, 1,200 outreach and admissions counselors, 100 placement agencies and 25 center contractors.

Its services will include software development, network engineering, telecommunications maintenance and payroll processing.

"We're proud to be part of this nationwide initiative to enhance the qualifications and marketability of disadvantaged youths in the workplace," said Rodney Hunt, company president and chief executive officer.
