JULY 12 ? Global Crossing Ltd., a provider of voice, data and next-generation applications, launched its Global Government Solutions Group July 11 to provide communication products and services to government.

The Government Solutions Group will serve governments domestically and internationally through Global Crossing's IP-based fiber network. The company said it can competitively price bids and develop and deploy solutions more quickly. The new division will provide telecommunications products and develop customized solutions for government customers.

"This new division will allow Global Crossing to better serve the government market with our unique portfolio of telecommunications assets," said Paul Kayatta, president of Global Government Solutions. "We believe that the short- and long-term value propositions we are offering focus on satisfying specific government needs."

In May, Global Crossing was awarded an indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract worth up to $250 million by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of Great Britain. Global Crossing will provide a virtual private network linking 240 British embassies, consulates and commissions, company officials said.

Global Crossing's operations are based in Hamilton, Bermuda, with other offices in the United States.
