VetJobs.com Plus AIRS Equals Online Job Hunting

By Gail Repsher, Staff Writer

JUNE 5 ? VetJobs.com, a resume database and online job board for U.S. military veterans, said today it is partnering with AIRS, which teaches recruiters how to find new employees online.

VetJobs.com's 282 corporate clients, which include Electronic Data Systems Corp., Litton-PRC Inc., Oracle Corp. and General Dynamics Corp., will be able to use AIRS' publications and seminars to improve their efforts to recruit veterans.

The financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

"In today's job market, if you're not recruiting on the Internet, you're losing ground," said Stephen Tompkins, vice president of communications for Marietta, Ga.-based VetJobs.com. Together, the companies will provide daily recruitment news to U.S. military veterans.

"This up-to-date employment market information will help meet the needs of about 200,000 veterans who leave the military each year and start looking for civilian jobs, as well as the 9 million veterans currently in the work force," said Michael Foster, chief executive officer of Hanover, N.H.-based AIRS.

Tompkins, a former naval aviator, said veterans are especially qualified for technology jobs.

"No matter who you hire in the military, you're going to get someone with a technical background. And our clients are looking for someone with a security clearance. We are the perfect place to find them," Tompkins said.

AIRS formed in 1997 has helped more than 8,000 clients in growing companies and recruiting organizations. VetJobs.com has posted 7,000 veterans' resumes and placed more than 200 employees since its launch in November 1999.
