Grant Thornton, Vienna, Va., selected Amy Amos as an assurance manager for the government contracts business services practice. Before joining Grant Thornton, she was the government contracting compliance officer for Computer Technology Associates. Grant Thornton is an international accounting and consulting firm that provides professional services to middle-market entrepreneurial organizations.

Grant Thornton also announced that Tanya Thomas joined the firm as a senior manager for its tax department. She joins the company with more than 10 years of experience in tax consulting, with an emphasis on real estate tax work. Before joining Grant Thornton, Thomas was a tax manager with Arthur Andersen.

Vcampus Corp., Reston, Va., hired Don Olcott Jr. as associate vice president for higher education services. Olcott will be responsible for directing all Vcampus academic programs. He was the associate dean for Extended University at the University of Arizona. He was also the former manager for institutional services with the Western Cooperative for Educational Telecommunications and director of the Institute for the Management of Distance Education. Vcampus is an e-learning application service provider that develops, manages and hosts turnkey, Web-based learning environments for corporations, academic institutions and government agencies.

The Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions appointed Jean-Paul Emard as director of industry forums. He will be responsible for directing the ATIS-sponsored industry numbering committee, internetwork interoperability test coordination committee, the network and services industry forum and the data-aware transport activity and generic requirements user group. Emard was most recently with the Electronic Industries Alliance as the staff vice president of standards and technology. ATIS is a member company organization that defines standards and operating procedures for the telecommunications industry.

LeapSource, a provider of business process outsourcing, selected Mary Karen Wills to head the recently opened Washington office. Before joining LeapSource, Wills was partner-in-charge of Arthur Andersen's government contracts practice. LeapSource helps companies maximize their core business and grow more profitable by providing back-end office management through Web-enabled technology.

Bruce Walker was hired as chief technology officer of Internet Venture Works, Waltham, Mass. Walker came to IVW from Sun Microsystems Inc. serving as chief technology officer for the Sun/Netscape alliance e-commerce applications division and director of e-commerce architecture and technology for Sun's e-business efforts. Walker will be responsible for the overall architecture and technology investment decisions of the company and its portfolio of Internet start-up companies.

MicroVault Corp., Huntington Beach, Calif., appointed Eric Buskirk as vice president of business strategy and development. Buskirk worked with telecommunications companies such as AT&T Corp., American Bell and Southwestern Bell. MicroVault is a provider of secure document delivery over the Internet.

Emerald Solutions Inc., Portland, Ore., a provider of project-based e-business engineering consulting services, hired Jeri Abernathy as vice president of the telecommunications practice. Abernathy will focus on both national and international projects and will be based in Emerald's Vienna, Va., office.
