The Florida Department of Management Services in Tallahassee picked Intermedia Communications Inc. of Tampa to manage toll-free telephone services to federal, state and local agencies. The contract, valued at $4 million per year, will become effective Aug. 15 and will expire Jan. 1, 2003.

The Department of Management Services also chose SAP, Atlanta, for a pilot Human Resources and Payroll System that will determine the feasibility of replacing Florida's Financial Management Information System and related subsystems. That contract, awarded in April, is valued at $667,000.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health in Harrisburg hired J.K. Associates, Denver, to provide a statewide immunization information system. The contract, awarded in April, is valued at $949,000.

The Virginia Department of Information Technology in Richmond hired 360 Communications, Chicago, for statewide cellular telephone air time services. The contract became effective in April and expires in March 2000.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources in Lansing chose Business Advantage Inc., Burlington, Mass., for an implementation strategy for a multimedia call center to be known as the DNR Customer Care Center. The contract, awarded in March, is valued at $48,000 over three months.

The Wisconsin Department of Administration in Madison hired McGladrey & Pullen, Schaumburg, Ill., to assist the state in planning, procuring and implementing telecommunications products and services for local and long-distance calling and videoconferencing. The contract, awarded in March, is valued at $150,000 per year with a minimum duration of two years.

The Indiana Department of Administration in Indianapolis hired PeopleSoft Inc., Pleasanton, Calif., to provide an integrated Government Management Information System. The system is to handle such areas as human resources, budget, purchasing and asset management and accounts receivable. The contract, awarded in December, is valued at $5.5 million.

These information technology contract awards by state and local governments are compiled by Federal Sources Inc.'s state and local division. Federal Sources is a market research firm in McLean, Va.
