Oracle Teams With Agile Software

Oracle Corp., Redwood Shores, Calif., will provide implementation services for data management products from Agile Software Corp., San Jose, Calif. Oracle will install Agile products, provide data migration, set up access and administrative models, and perform systems integration. Agile is already part of Oracle's Cooperative Application Initiative program, through which Oracle works with other software developers. Agile said the new agreement will extend its global reach and allow it to offer fixed-price delivery of products and services.

Unisys, Amdahl Add ICL Browser Interface

The federal division of Unisys Corp., Blue Bell, Pa., and Amdahl Federal Services Corp., Reston, Va., have separately tapped ICL Inc. of Reston to provide a PC interface for users of legacy mainframe systems. Amdahl and Unisys will sell ICL's Dialogue Manager Plus to the federal government for users of Unisys, IBM/Amdahl, Digital Equipment Corp. and Unix systems. Dialogue Manager Plus allows users to access data via a PC with a Windows or Internet browser graphical interface. Unisys is integrating Dialogue Manager Plus with its 2200 Series legacy system. Unisys and Amdahl will target the federal market, while ICL pushes the offering globally.

Smith Micro, Softmart Ink DISTRIBUTION Deal

Softmart Inc., Malvern, Pa., will distribute Smith Micro Software Inc. products to both corporate and government markets. Aliso Viejo, Calif.-based Smith Micro has a new licensing program that allows customers to license as few as 50 Smith Micro products on a mix-and-match basis with a choice of two basic licensing options, a single purchase option and a commitment option.

HP, Microsoft Plan Windows NT Server Telecom Products

Hewlett-Packard Co., Palo Alto, Calif., is developing computing platforms for network-based telecommunications applications using Redmond, Wash.-based Microsoft Corp.'s Windows NT server operating system. HP said it plans to offer Signaling System 7 and voice applications on Windows NT servers.

The platforms will include central office configurations and are expected to be available in 1998. HP intends to provide around-the-clock, worldwide support and a comprehensive set of services to assist in application development through network implementation.

The platforms will integrate Windows NT with HP's OpenCall SS7 family of Unix platforms. By integrating the two platforms, HP said it expects its customers will have the scalability and flexibility to develop the "extended network." Increasing competition and the need to differentiate in the telecommunications market are fueling the growth of personalized services delivered via fixed and mobile telephone networks and the Internet.

Momentum Adds Spanish Distributor

Momentum Software Corp., Hasbrouck Heights, N.J., expanded its international presence by reaching a distributor agreement with Slouciones de Software Integradas, Barcelona, Spain. Momentum develops message- oriented middleware. SSI specializes in local area networks and Unix, the company said. SSI clients range from financial institutions and utility companies to government and commercial markets.

MicroAge Creates Telephony, Internet Group

Keeping with its business model of aligning internal planning and management with market-driven buying trends, MicroAge Inc., Tempe, Ariz., has created a computer telephony integration and Internet solutions group to be headed by Clay Sorenson. Structuring resources along product lines instead of manufacturer lines forces MicroAge to think like its customers and helps the company deal with rapid changes in technology, said Don Lyons, group vice president, MicroAge Category Management. Other categories include client systems (desktop systems and imaging solutions), enterprise (networking, servers and mobile solutions), software and original equipment manufacturer components.
