Washington Technology Online State of the $tates

The Florida International University in Miami signed a contract with IBM Corp. of Tallahassee, Fla., to supply access to FIUnet and the Internet. The contract is expected to provide Internet service for set base rates to students, alumni and faculty.

The Iowa Department of General Services, Division of Purchasing in Des Moines contracted with Motorola C & E Co., Urbandale, Ill., for the supply of pager and encoder equipment and services to all state and local agencies. The one-year contract was awarded in May.

Towson State University in Towson, Md., contracted with Vrendenburg of Reston, Va., for the implementation of a workflow/document imaging system. The one-year contract, with a one-year option, has a one-year value of $300,000. It was awarded in May.

The Nevada Department of Employment Security in Carson City signed a contract with SCI Consulting, Falls Church, Va., to provide software and support services to replace the department's benefits systems, which are a component of the state's unemployment insurance systems. The contract is valued at nearly $4.4 million.

The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality in Portland contracted with Claremont Technologies, Beaverton, Ore., to analyze, develop, implement and maintain DEQ's information systems as well as provide additional services and support to the DEQ Business Systems Group. The two-year contract, awarded in June, will not exceed $2 million.

The Utah Natural Resources Department, Division of Wildlife Resources in Salt Lake City, awarded a contract to Systems Consultants, Fallon, Nev., for a Big Game Permit System. The six-month contract with two one-year options is potentially worth $700,000.

The Washington State Patrol in Tumwater has signed a contract with Science Applications International Corp. in McLean, Va., for the re-engineering of two major criminal justice information systems. The contract, signed May 12, has a value of $4 million.
