GTE, Needham, Mass., has received an estimated $20 million contract for support of the U.S. Navy's fleet communication system of ultra-high frequency satellites. Under the award of the one-year cost-plus, fixed-fee contract, GTE will provide satellite engineering support to the Naval Satellite Operations Center at Point Mugu, Calif., and other locations.
Lockheed Martin Federal Systems, Gaithersburg, Md., a business unit of Lockheed Martin Corp., has won a five-year contract to upgrade the scheduling and satellite operations systems for the U.S. Air Force's Satellite Control Network. The contract is initially valued between $24 million and $48 million, but the value is expected to increase as engineering change proposals are implemented.


DARPA, the U.S. Government's Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, has selected Computing Devices International, Bloomington, Minn., as prime contractor for phase 2 of its Battlefield Awareness and Data Dissemination program. This contract award is valued at $30 million. As prime contractor, Computing Devices will lead an 11-company team in developing and integrating a global information management and broadcast system that will give America's warfighters the capability to accomplish command and control to dominate the battlefield.

User Technology Associates Inc., Arlington, Va., has been awarded the Labor Department's Technical Systems Development and Operations support contract worth almost $43 million. The five-year contract will provide systems integration and programming activities at the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The Department of Veteran's Affairs' Veteran's Canteen Service, McLean, Va., awarded MCI a five-year $35 million contract. This contract continues MCI's role in offering value-added telecommunications services to the nation's veterans.
